Daniel Jumper

Cello

We are delighted to have Daniel Jumper joining the Academy faculty this year.  A former student of our very own Amanda Turner, Daniel is both a professional cellist and experienced instructor.

Daniel began his cello studies at Greenville Middle Academy and then Eastside High in Greenville, SC.  While a student in Greenville, Daniel was the Principal Cellist for String Stations and a member of both the Greenville County Junior Youth Orchestra and later the Greenville County Youth Orchestra. At SCMEA Regionals, Daniel was chosen as Principal Cellist for three consecutive years.  After a move to Charlotte, Daniel continued his studies with Leigh Marsch and Amanda Turner.  He was selected as a meber of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra, serving as Principal Cellist under the direction of Dr. Ernest Pereira.

In the Charlotte area, Daniel has performed professionally with the Rothesay String Trio, the CSYO String Quartet, the UNCC Premier Piano Trio, and the UNCC Cello Choir.  Daniel was also the Principal Cellist for the UNCC Honors Chamber Orchestra and the UNCC Symphony Orchestra.  Alongside his former teacher, Amanda, Daniel currently performs in the Magnify Worship Orchestra.

Daniel has received many honors including the Rising Star Award, Meg Hutchins Scholar, the National High School Orchestra Award, and was selected as the Bonnie E. Cone String Quartet Scholar.  Daniel's students have both performance and evaluation opportunities, such as the NFMC Music Festival. This gives students wonderful goals to work towards throughout the year, and keeps them achieving their best!  Daniel now begins his sixth year of teaching and we welcome him to Charlotte Academy of Music!

Testimonial:

I am very pleased to give Daniel Jumper my highest recommendation as a cellist and cello teacher.  Daniel is a superb teacher.  I regularly send my own private cello students to study with Daniel when I need to be out of town because I believe in his teaching so much.  I have had the pleasure of watching Daniel teach cello students on outreach visits to local public schools that we have taken together.  I have also observed him critique my own college cello students regularly in studio class.  His commends are always clear, concise and exactly right.  He treats others with respect and has a special gift for motivating others to learn.  His talent at teaching has already started to pay off.  For example, one of his private cello students began studying with Daniel as a total beginner last August (she had previously played violin, however not seriously.)  Due to Daniel's excellent teaching, by January (just 6 months later) the students was able to audition successfully into the music major at UNCC on cello!  She is a hard worker, but very few cello teachers could have taken her so far in such a short period of time.  Daniel has had numerous success stories that have helped him develop a strong reputation as a private cello teacher in Charlotte.  I recommend him wholeheartedly and without reservation.

Testimonials:

I just wanted you to know how thrilled we have been with Logan’s violin instructor, David Strassberg.  After the first lesson, I knew she had been placed with the “right” teacher.

Logan is an avid soccer player but has asked us for the past two years if she could try the violin.  I really thought this might be a passing phase but she is the one who brings out the violin to practice – I do not have to remind her.  In planning her schedule for the fall, her only requirement is that she has Mr. David.

I have been very impressed with Charlotte Academy of Music.  Its professionalism and organization makes me very happy with our decision.  David has made violin fun for Logan while at the same time, challenging her to move towards her potential – one we didn’t really know she had. Thank you for having such great teachers on your staff that can relate to 8 year olds and kids of all ages.  We look forward to being with your academy and growing through the years.

Respectfully,

Christa Tyson Boggs
