Voice Teachers
Sandy Eldridge
BA Music, Vocal Performance, Rollins
College, Winter Park, FL Music and singing have always been Sandy’s passion. She sang at every opportunity: at home, in church, in school and community choruses. Love of singing led her to explore other instruments and over a lifetime she has played guitar, clarinet, flute and piano. Beyond solo and choral work, her love of music also drew her to theater where she became involved in local community efforts. As her family matured, Sandy returned to college as a “non-traditional” student and completed her degree in Music, Vocal Performance. There she found a new confidence in her own abilities and joy in areas of music she had previously overlooked; opera and jazz. With her newly minted degree, in 2002 Sandy jumped into professional music with both feet; simultaneously teaching voice and performing in professional theater in Orlando. As her teaching studio grew, she added work with the Orlando Opera, session work at a recording studio and seasonal vocal street performance. Early in 2006 family issues necessitated a move from Florida to Charlotte by way of Chicago. During that time she had to forgo almost all her music activities. Finally, in the summer of 2007, Sandy was able to resume teaching in her home studio and performing with Theatre Charlotte in “Oliver!” Sandy is very happy to be back sharing her passion for music and singing with the next generation of singers and performers in Charlotte. She has immersed herself in the local arts community and is gladdened by the variety and quantity of talent found in Charlotte. Membership in professional associations such as NATS, MTNA and MTA allows Sandy to network with a large pool of educators and to have access to the latest information on vocal health, pedagogy, and repertoire. These organizations also give her students access to performance and learning opportunities outside the Academy. Sandy designs a curriculum for each individual student based on their needs and ability. She says, “I focus on the student’s goals and try to find music that speaks to them. Although warm-ups and vocalizes are part of the training, I strive to find songs they enjoy and want to practice. Music should be something they love!"
