glee club auditions!

Charlotte Academy of Music will hold auditions on Sunday, February 6th starting at 3:00pm. Students between the ages of 13-19 who have an interest in singing, developing sight reading skills and performing are encouraged to audition! The Charlotte Glee Club performs throughout the Charlotte area and in a Show Choir Competition in the Spring.

welcome, alexandra sims

The Academy is pleased to introduce our newest faculty member, Alexandra Sims. Alexandra is the Director of our vocal ensemble, the Charlotte Glee Club.

Alexandra holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from UNC Greensboro, and is a choral director/teacher at Northwest School of the Arts. While a student, she was the Director of the collegiate a capella group, the UNCG Sapphires. She studied voice under Anne Albert, D.M.A. and piano under Joseph DiPiazza, D.M.A. At Northwest Alexandra has served as the Musical Director for the school's productions of Annie, Jr (2008), Seussical, Jr (2009) and Fiddler on the Roof, Jr (2010).

Alexandra brings to the Academy an enthusiasm for teaching and, in addition to her expertise in choral directing, accomplishments in music composition and arranging. She enjoys singing with the premier choral ensemble of Carolina Voices, VOX, and spending time with her husband, Winston, the director of the Theatre program at Marvin Ridge High School.

guitar clinic

On Monday, January 31st the Academy presented a free guitar clinic with touring artist, Mark Kroos. What an inspiring event! It was so nice for our students to have an opportunity to ask Mark questions, receive autographed CDs and hear his amazing music. Here's a short Video of Mark performing one of his pieces at Charlotte Academy of Music.

Hailing from Williamsburg, VA, Mark Kroos is one of the only touring double neck guitarists in the world. His almost strictly instrumental style is characterized by open harmonies, polyphonic textures, incredible tapping technique, and is as entertaining to watch as it is to listen to.

Mark’s debut solo album, “And Grace Will Lead Me Home” was released this January to rave reviews. www.markkroos.com
