A perfect camp for our current students is the Fine Arts Camp. We will learn about musical composers, create artistic masterpieces and even have mini private lessons throughout the day! Ages 7-10

nfmc festival results

Wow...that's all we can say when it comes to our students' results at the NFMC (National Federation of Music Clubs) Festival this year! There are 5 possible ratings at Festival, with Superior being the highest, and Excellent being next to highest. Every Academy student received either a Superior or Excellent in the performance events listed below...

Theory Examination: 70 of 78 Academy students made a Superior (score of 90-100) on their NFMC Theory Test. Perfect scores (100) were achieved by: Taegan Anderson, Sarah Austin, Miranda DiPaolo, Mary Devlin Dixson, Michael Eilers, Finn Jareo, Addie Kirkland, Myles Lockett, Natalie Montognese, Lindsey Perkins, Justin Rivera, Aaron Shropshire, Meghan Speed, Cooper Trucks, Sophia Zhu

Earlier this year Academy student, Taegan Anderson, entered the PTA Reflections program. (See Taegan pictured to the right, at the keys, along with her siblings, also Academy students, Brittlyn, Mikaela and Kelsye)

The theme of the Reflections program was "Together We Can: and Taegan not only submitted an amazing video titled "Working Together", but also composed an outstanding piano piece, "Playing Together." Give the piece a listen by clicking the link below. What talent!

Both Taegan's film and her piano piece placed first at the school and County Level. Her film also won first place at the District and State levels, so it will advance to the National Competition!

ncmta piano contest

Several Academy piano students participated in the North Carolina Music Teachers Association Piano Contest on March 5th. We are so pleased to announce that all of our students received one of the two highest ratings of Excellent or Superior in this challenging adjudication event. Students perform pieces from the 18th, 19th and 20th/21st centuries. Participating students included: Brittlyn Anderson, Mikaela Anderson, Guillermo Briceno, Qasim El-Amin, Luna Jareo, Lauren Klein, Akshra Paimagam, Arianna Picard, Meghan Speed, Tori Tavares and Hannah Williams. Three of our students, Mikaela, Guillermo and Tori, advanced to the State Finals!

congrats, kevin kent!

Kevin Kent, member of our Charlotte Glee Club, recently auditioned for and was accepted into the Central Academy of Technology Arts, a high school in Union County. Kevin will "major" in Performing Arts at CATA, and prepared both a monologue and song for his audition.

Manana Restiano (Ms. Gigi) never ceases to amaze us. Of course we all know she is a gifted pianist and teacher, but she can now add children's book illustrator to that list of talents! The book, "Wings of Friendship" features Ms. Gigi's vibrant artwork, as seen to the right.

academy teacher named ncmta district chair

Heather Brunner was recently named the North Carolina Music Teachers Association District Chair. She will oversee both the Charlotte area NCMTA Piano Contest as well as the State Competition! We are so proud that our teachers are active in the musical community and we recognize Heather for taking no this event so important to the development of area piano students!

The NCMTA is a division of the Music Teachers National Association.

summer registration

Registration for Summer Private Lessons will begin in mid-April. Please remember that to qualify for Early Fall Registration students need to take a minimum of 6 private summer lessons, or 4 private lessons plus a camp.

Summer is a wonderful time for students to really excel in music. Without the demanding schedules of the school year, so much can be accomplished. Many of our teachers use the summer months to explore new things with students...pop music, Broadway, improvisation, composition, duets, ensemble playing. Some students prefer to just get a jump start on their Festival and competition pieces for the coming school year. We look forward to enjoying a musical summer with you all!
