VIP Pre-Registration has begun. Students who registered for 6 or more summer private lessons, or 4 or more private lessons plus a camp should have now received their fall registration packets. If you have not and you believe you were eligible to register early, please email the Academy. A confirmation of your scheduled lesson day/time for the 2011-2012 academic year will be emailed to you by August 10th.

Registration for returning and new incoming students will begin July 16th. Please register early to ensure the best selection of lesson day and time! We have registered many new students over the summer and expect times to be filled quickly.

welcome robin love!

The Academy is pleased to welcome Robin Love to our piano faculty. Robin holds a BM in Piano Pedagogy and State Teaching Certificate from East Carolina University, where she also minored in voice and organ.  Robin also holds the distinction of being a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM). 

During 1998-2001, Robin served as the President of the Charlotte Music Teachers Association (CMTA).  She has also held the positions of Publicity Chair for Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and Editor of the North Carolina Music Teachers Magazine.  In addition, she has served on the Ethics, Auditions, Nominating and Scholarship Endowment committees with the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum (CPTF).  Robin was the Chairperson for the NCMTA District Contest-Festival, the NCMTA State Contest-Festival as well as the NCFMC Contest-Festival.  For two years Robin ran the NCFMC Music Festival coordinating over 1,200 students, acquiring judges and overseeing the entire event.  Robin's students have participated in both district and state level contests, receiving Superior Honor ratings.

In 1993, she and her husband served in Music Ministry to Nova Sibirsk, Russia.  Robin was also church pianist, organist and choir director from 1970-1992.  She co-teaches Marching Percussion with her husband each summer for the East Mecklenburg Marching Eagles for the past 10 years and the Red Devils of Newton-Conover for past 3 years. 

Robin lives in Matthews with her husband, Kent Love. They have two grown children. She enjoys working with eager, enthusiastic students who desire to have fun at the piano!

glee club auditions

Love to sing? Well then we have the perfect place for you! The Charlotte Glee Club is an ensemble of Charlotte Academy of Music for students ages 13-18. The Glee Club performs throughout the community and at a show choir competition each year.

summer fun!

It's cool to walk through the Academy during summer months and hear the music students are exploring. Lately, it's The Beatles, Alicia Keys, movie themes, Broadway selections and more! Students are playing piano trios and some are already getting a head-start on their NCMTA audition pieces.

camps!

We *heart* summer camps! Our first of the summer was GLEE Camp where students learned pop songs, complete with 4 part harmony and choreography. These kids also rehearsed and polished solos and duets for the end-of-camp performance. See a Video Clip! GLEE Camp was directed by Megan Magden Postle.

Last week our Mo'zArt campers enjoyed learning about the piano and art. In piano, they learned the music alphabet, names of the white keys and how to count quarter, half, dotted half and whole notes! Yes, all in just 5 short days! In art, the campers learned about some of the great artists as well as various painting and drawing techniques.
