Walking through the Anaheim Convention Center last week, the energy was unmistakable. As a musician and educator, there is no place quite like the NAMM Show…the world’s largest gathering for the music industry. This year was truly historic as NAMM celebrated its 125th Anniversary, and I was thrilled to represent Charlotte Academy of Music at the heart of this global community.
Our mission? To see, hear, and bring back the very best of the music world to our CAM families.
A Global Connection for Music Lessons in Matthews, NC
Attending an event of this scale reminds us that CAM is more than just a local school; we are connected to the pulse of the international industry. By staying at the forefront of trends alongside reputable organizations like the Music Teachers National Association and major music publishing companies, we ensure our students aren’t just learning…they are thriving on the same “future-forward” trajectory as professionals in New York or Nashville.
Innovative Takeaways for Musical Theatre Productions and Classes
While I explored miles of instruments, I kept a specific eye on how the latest technology can elevate our SHINE Musical Theatre MainStage productions, workshops, and music lessons. Here is what I’m most excited to integrate into our performing arts classes and upcoming musical theatre activities for kids and teens:
- Adaptive Rehearsal Tools: One of the most talked-about debuts was a new generation of “Smart” accompaniment. Unlike the static tracks of the past, these platforms actually listen to the student in real-time. If a singer takes a breath or holds a high note for a bit of extra “theatre magic,” the track follows their lead rather than leaving them behind. It teaches our students how to lead an accompanist, giving them the confidence of a live orchestra during their home practice sessions.
- Broadway-Quality Soundscapes: We explored new professional-grade tech that brings a new level of atmosphere to our youth theatre productions. These tools allow us to layer cinematic sound effects…like the ambient bustle of a London street or the magical shimmer of a fairy tale forest…directly into the performance. This immersive audio makes the stage feel ten times larger, helping our students truly “get into character” by transforming our performance space into a fully realized world.
- Inclusive Music Education: NAMM 2026 placed a massive emphasis on accessibility. In everything we offer…from our private studios and high-energy summer camps to the lights of a musical theatre production…ensuring every student has the tools and support they need to succeed is at the very heart of the CAM experience.
Previewing Our 2026 Summer Camps in Matthews
Perhaps the most exciting part of the trip was gathering inspiration for our upcoming summer camps in Matthews. Whether your child is interested in an immersive musical theatre camp or production, or intensive summer music lessons, we are bringing world-class ideas directly to our local studios.
The Future is Center Stage
At CAM, we’ve always said our programs are “More Than a Musical.” By staying connected to the global stage, we are preparing our students to be the confident, tech-savvy leaders of tomorrow.
Whether you are looking for piano lessons, guitar classes, musical theatre productions, or other arts activities, CAM is dedicated to bringing world-class innovation to our community. I can’t wait to see these inspirations come to life!
