Darby Schmidt

Inspired by one of her younger brothers, Darby started playing the violin at the age of 16. Although later to the instrument than most, she came from an extensive musical and rhythmic background in piano and national-level Irish dance, and she soon found herself pursuing the violin with an infectious combination of love for the instrument and determination to make it sing as beautifully as possible. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance from Cedarville University, where she studied under Carlos Elias.

Over the years, Darby has enjoyed teaching local students and playing in a variety of settings, whether the Cedarville University orchestra and small ensembles, playing at her church, being a member of a touring orchestra in Italy, or even getting to play for patients at a small hospital where her family worked in Africa. No matter the experience, she has loved bringing the joy of music to the forefront as she interacts with others.

When teaching, Darby is passionate about helping her students unlock that same love of music that she found! She loves guiding students of all ages as they develop in their skill, musicality, and enjoyment of the instrument in a fun and encouraging environment.
