Melissa Langston

Melissa Owens Langston has been passionate about song and dance since a very young age. She has fond childhood memories of singing joyfully in solitude on her grandmother’s porch swing while adults chattered inside the house. After much experience in choirs, school musicals and travel tour groups, she began her higher education studies, obtaining a BS in Education & M.Ed, with additional course work credits in voice and dance. While raising her son and daughter in NC, she taught group musical theatre classes in arts facilities, taught private voice with an emphasis on vocal health for 18 years, and continued to audition and perform. Two auditions resulted in professional ensemble work alongside renowned actors Lou Diamond Phillips in The King & I  and Debbie Boone in Camelot!  Melissa’s favorite lead roles in musical productions include The Witch – Into the Woods, Anna Leonowens – The King & I, Eliza Doolittle – My Fair Lady, Truvy Jones – Steel Magnolias, Marmee March – Little Women, and Nettie Fowler – Carousel.

Some of Melissa’s vocal performance students have been awarded scholarships toward degrees and are now working in areas of musical theater, music therapy, music production, music education, commercial music, opera performance, and character acting for Disney!

Along with teaching & performing, Melissa has adjudicated for The Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program and has continued her professional development through Duke Voice Care Clinics & The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

She wishes all those with a passion for music & dance to have the opportunities to “let their light so shine!”
