Ukulele Lessons

As one of the easiest stringed instruments to play, the ukulele is a great point of entry for anyone who wants to explore playing music! Compared to many other instruments, the ukulele is also very affordable. As if those reasons weren’t enough, its easily portable and songs from many genres sound great on the ukulele.

At CAM, you will find our experienced ukulele teachers ready to help you achieve your dream of playing the ukulele!

The Ukulele

The ukulele, also known as uke, is a versatile instrument, and it is often used and heard in a broad range of musical genres, including jazz, country music, pop, world music, and rock. So, what does ukulele mean? Interestingly, ukulele means “jumping flea!” The name was given because of its small size, and vibrant, cheerful, and exuberant sound.

There are four main sizes of ukuleles: baritone, tenor ukulele, ukulele concert, and the soprano ukulele. A ukulele sells for between $20 and more than $1,000, depending on the type and quality of the construction. High-quality ukuleles are made of acacia koa or mahogany. Famous ukulele players include Cliff Edwards, Eddie Kamae, Jake Shimabukuro, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, and James Hill.  Many iconic music stars such as Elvis Presley, Eddie Vedder, Elvis Costello, George Harrison, Taylor Swift, and Joni Mitchell also played the uke in live performances. The ukulele has become widely popular as of late with artists like Grace VanderWaal and Ingrid Michaelson showcasing the ukulele in recent hit albums.
